4 Of The Best Retirement Jobs For Seniors

Whilst working the thought of doing something we love at our own pace sounds wonderful.  However, as soon as retirement comes around many people tend to find that they miss their jobs. This is often one of the reasons why people search for retirement jobs for seniors.

But this isn’t the only reason.  There are some who continue to work because it helps them to stay fit.  Whilst for others they like to work because it helps their mental health.  Then for others the reason for wanting to carry on working is to earn an extra income.

If like so many others you have begun searching for retirement jobs for seniors then this article is going to help.  In here we have created a list of jobs that would be worth looking at if you are wanting to go back to work.  Why not check these out to see what job will best suit your needs after you have retired.

1)  Return To Where You Used To Work
If you liked your old job then why not consider going back to work there, but on a part time basis.  Most companies dislike losing staff they see as being valuable.  Your old employer may well jump at the chance of being able to employ you once more.

The great thing about choosing such work is that often it isn’t as intensive.  Plus the hours you work are often a lot more flexible.  Another great thing about returning to your previous job is that you can renew friendships.  As well as do work that  you enjoyed previously.

2)  Become A Consultant
If you have a degree or specialised in a certain field you might want to consider a career as a consultant.  You can leverage your experience, training and connections to find jobs that suit your needs.  Plus you are the one who controls when and how often you work for.

There are certain areas today where retirees who act as consultants are in demand.  Such areas include finance, litigation, website development and programming.  Often you find the fees you get paid are good because the employer doesn’t have to provide any benefits to you.  But you may find that the work can be quite sporadic.  This will depend a lot on where you live and how quickly you can build up a good client base.

In the beginning taking on short term or part time consultancy positions is a good idea.  This will enable you to build up a good list of professional contacts.  They may in turn then help you to find work in the future.  Also it is worth looking to sign up to an employment agency.  They usually have a big database of companies that are in need of the kinds of services you offer.

3)  Become A Temp
By becoming a temp it provides you with the opportunity to decide when you do or don’t work.   The kinds of jobs can be quite varied, but these are the kind that will keep you on your toes.   Also the length of such work can vary.  Sometimes you may be only needed for a day or two, whilst other positions mean you work for a company for several weeks.

But once you have retired when you begin temping should you decide you want to have a break you can.  You simply tell the agency who arranges positions for you that you aren’t available.  The great thing is that the majority of temporary positions don’t need you to have specific skills.   There are plenty of places both locally and online where you can find such work.

4)  Work In Retail
Retail work isn’t just for those in their 20’s.  In fact there many retailers who choose to employ seniors instead.  This is because they tend to find them more reliable.  Plus in most cases they also tend to be a lot more patient when it comes to dealing with customers.

There are certain times of the year that such companies tend to look for staff to work for them part time.  The main times of course are during school holidays and at important times of the year such as Christmas.  This kind of work is perfect for someone who loves the company of others and misses being around others.
